Lou Delius (b. 2001, Zürich) is a visual artist whose work explores the human condition through the lens of threshold, memory, and liminal drawing. Working at the intersection of paper and pigment, her practice reflects on the fragmentation of history within societies that struggle to conceive of what—or who—has disappeared. Through fragile, layered compositions nuanced with spectral undertones, Delius seeks to document the ghostly as a living presence, capturing the subtle sense of passage and instability inherent in contemporary existence.

Drawing from both her Beninese heritage—where invisible worlds coexist tangibly with the living—and critical theory on liminality, her practice engages both cultural archive and personal ritual. By placing ordinary gestures of drawing in dialogue with references to Vodun traditions, counter-temporal models, and mortality, she constructs narratives where past and present overlap, allowing the unseen to surface within the familiar. Her process is slow and receptive, built through meticulous, successive layers of dry pastel that are repeatedly erased, built up, and revised, allowing images to emerge gradually like apparitions from a silent, physical surface.

The artist received her formal training at the École Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs de Paris (2019–2025) and studied at the School of Visual Arts in New York (2022). Delius currently lives and works in Paris, developing interconnected series that weave the visible to the invisible across borders and temporalities.
