Kingston Poplar (b.1996) is a visual artist whose work explores the human condition through the lens of autobiographical, figurative painting. Working at the intersection of memory and material reality, his practice reflects on the fragmentation of contemporary life within a world saturated by a constant influx of imagery and information. Through everyday scenes nuanced with surreal undertones, Poplar seeks to document a human life lived today, capturing the subtle sense of unease and absurdity inherent in modern existence. Drawing from the mundane rituals of daily life, such as exercising or washing dishes, his practice engages both personal and collective experience. By placing these ordinary moments in dialogue with references to technology, history, and mortality, he constructs narratives where past and present overlap, allowing the unreal to surface within the familiar. His process is slow and controlled, built through meticulous layers of color and glaze that allow the image to develop with precision over time, evolving from an intuitive mental image into a unified, physical surface. The artist received his formal training at Leeds Arts University, where he earned a First Class BA (Hons) in Fine Art, and is currently continuing his development through the Turps Correspondence Course. Poplar has exhibited internationally, with notable shows in London, Melbourne, Beirut, and the Netherlands.
